This month we are building on our August event (about earthquake sequences in the Transition Zone around central Aotearoa-NZ), by having ‘a big one’ hit us at a random time and looking at how we’d respond, how prepared we are and what we can do to improve.

We’ll imagine the Alpine Fault having a magnitude 7 to 8 earthquake (given a 75% chance in the next 50 years) with major impacts coming up to us in Wellington. Power, water, gas, communication and road networks could all be significantly damaged giving us a range of challenges to face as individuals, families and a community. 

This might be confronting but coming together to talk, learn, share and take action is a great way to overcome this.
