Clear Path Ensemble presents the new album Ascending | Vogelmorn Hall

Clear Path Ensemble is the sonic project of Wellington artist Cory Champion, emerging from the pulse of the local jazz underground. Moving between experimental jazz, electronics, and psychedelic textures, the music unfolds as a fluid, exploratory sound world.

This intimate playback session offers a first encounter with Ascending — a new body of work shaped by rhythm, space, and improvisation—accompanied by a live, improvised response from Daniel Hayles, Riki Pirihi, and Cory Champion.

Time: Doors 6:30pm | Ascending playback 7:00pm
Entry: Free | Limited Capacity

Note: This is a pre-release listening event, not a full live performance by Clear Path Ensemble.

Ascending to be released 27 May 2026.

Bill Lake's Slow Bake

Bar open: 3:00pm | Doors open: 7:00pm | Gig starts: 7:30pm

Bill Lake is a master storyteller of Aotearoa roots music, with a career spanning over four decades. A founding force behind acts like Windy City Strugglers and Mammal, his songs blend blues, folk and country with warmth, humour and hard-won insight.

His live shows are intimate and deeply engaging—songs that feel lived-in, delivered with a wry eye and a generous spirit.

Joining him are longtime collaborator Steve Hemmens (bass) and multi-instrumentalist Alan Norman (The Warratahs, Rag Poets), whose rich textures on accordion, percussion and keys bring depth and swing to the trio’s sound.

Together, they create a soulful, roots-driven set full of heart, history, and a touch of Wellington grit.
