Songs at Vogelmorn with Ali Whitton & Just Janie | Vogelmorn Upstairs

Bar open: 3:00pm | Doors open: 7:00pm | Gig starts: 7:30pm

Koha Entry!

Come along and enjoy an intimate evening of story and song. Pōneke songwriter Ali Whitton will be joined by Ōtautahi-based Just Janie, both showcasing songs from their newly released albums.

Born and raised in Central Otago, Janie grew up writing songs tucked beneath the Hawkdun Ranges. Steeped in the golden warmth of the sixties and seventies, Just Janie’s music is a captivating and tender menagerie.

With her debut studio album coming in May; ‘Mythology of the Girls’, Just Janie is entering a new era. A reaction to nostalgia through a modern lens, the album pays homage to the folk scene of the late sixties and early seventies.

Ali's music blends folk, alt-country and bluegrass into a warm, woody sound centered on intimate storytelling. His debut album 'Between the Forest and the Stars' distils Ali’s years into richly layered arrangements produced by Dave Khan and co-produced with Reb Fountain, featuring fiddle, harmonies and locomotive rhythms.

Bar open: 3:00pm | Doors open: 8:00pm | Gig starts: 8:30pm

SEREBII is the project of Auckland-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Callum Mower. His third album, Nothing Grows Here, arriving in late May, sits in atmosphere and texture, leaning into transition, ambiguity and unfinished emotional states. Built from moments of movement rather than resolution, the record drifts between clarity and collapse, holding space for ideas still forming. These Aotearoa shows mark the first opportunity to hear the album reworked for stage, alongside earlier material, presented in an intimate live setting.

Wellington based singer songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Beans Wright and Don Mackay have been performing together as a duo since early 2025, and were previously both members of the trio Don and The Divorcees over the previous couple of years.  Beans has headlined the Weklington and Hamilton folk festivals, while Don previously fronted the alt country band "Scattered Wreckage".

The 13th Floor described “Bit Players” as “an album that trusts in the detail, honesty, and strength of three distinct songwriting voices working in harmony. Alongside the sadness and stillness, there is wit, warmth, and a sense of the comfort of friends.”

TIME: Doors 7:00pm, Music 7:30pm

If we're lucky there will also be a raffle but that depends on how quickly I (the mysterious event organiser) can get this all organised.

His live shows are intimate and deeply engaging—songs that feel lived-in, delivered with a wry eye and a generous spirit.
