Pōneke Promotion Crash Course | Vogelmorn Bowling Club

Have you ever wanted to throw a musical event but aren’t sure how to do it?

We have an educational initiative for you.

Introducing: the Pōneke Promotion Crash Course.

Presented by Casper de Wit (Ghost Media), Martyn Pepperell and a selection of special guests, this 2-day educational seminar at Vogelmorn Bowling Club on July 18/19th is designed to empower you and arm you with the tools to organise your own gigs, parties, shows, club nights, shindigs and raves.

Drawing on a deep tradition of DIY culture in Aotearoa’s music scene, Martyn and Casper will be sharing experience, insights and knowledge, alongside a deep bench of music industry specialists from a range of backgrounds. In line with the Wellington City Council’s objective of galvanising the city’s well established live music scene, our goal from this seminar is to inspire a new generation of event runners and inject even more life and confidence into the capital’s thriving musical ecosystem.

This event is completely free, but numbers are strictly limited and we are looking for the right candidates. If you’re interested, email ghostmedianz@gmail.com with a short paragraph about who you are and what you do (or what you seek to do).

The Hectet Presents: 'French Politics' | Vogelmorn Upstairs

Political betrayal; disaffected youth; distant peace; walls that separate us; cynical attempts to soothe the public; the feeling of being soothed; the presence or absence of a political will... These are important aspects of our daily lives in Aotearoa that are seldom talked about.

French Politics is Hector McLachlan's third album of original music, following on from 'Here Comes The Hectet' (2025) and 'Forest Music' (2018), and he has also prepared some new compositions that will be debuted on the night. Hector's creative practice is rooted in deep listening and historical materialism, informing a varied and multi-disciplinary output.

D.I.R.T. | Vogelmorn

D.I.R.T. [Disaster Innovation Research & Teaching] meets monthly at Vogelmorn Bowling Club.

In June, we are going to look at the WREMO (Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office) information about Brooklyn, which hasn’t been done since 2019 and really needs to be updated - you might have noticed a few relevant things happen since then.

This information is part of the Community Hub kit which lives at Brooklyn School and will also be added to the DIRT kit in our container. It covers the assets we have in our area along things that might be particular risks or challenges for us in an emergency.

We will kick off the DIRT book club too - so suggest the books that you’ve found good in relation to thinking about, preparing for, or just having a fun read about disaster and disruption. We can compare and share what we’ve learned and enjoyed.

Check out the Facebook Event here.

Songs at Vogelmorn with Ali Whitton & Just Janie | Vogelmorn Upstairs

Bar open: 3:00pm | Doors open: 7:00pm | Gig starts: 7:30pm

Koha Entry!

Come along and enjoy an intimate evening of story and song. Pōneke songwriter Ali Whitton will be joined by Ōtautahi-based Just Janie, both showcasing songs from their newly released albums.

Born and raised in Central Otago, Janie grew up writing songs tucked beneath the Hawkdun Ranges. Steeped in the golden warmth of the sixties and seventies, Just Janie’s music is a captivating and tender menagerie.

With her debut studio album coming in May; ‘Mythology of the Girls’, Just Janie is entering a new era. A reaction to nostalgia through a modern lens, the album pays homage to the folk scene of the late sixties and early seventies.

Ali's music blends folk, alt-country and bluegrass into a warm, woody sound centered on intimate storytelling. His debut album 'Between the Forest and the Stars' distils Ali’s years into richly layered arrangements produced by Dave Khan and co-produced with Reb Fountain, featuring fiddle, harmonies and locomotive rhythms.

Bar open: 3:00pm | Doors open: 8:00pm | Gig starts: 8:30pm

SEREBII is the project of Auckland-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Callum Mower. His third album, Nothing Grows Here, arriving in late May, sits in atmosphere and texture, leaning into transition, ambiguity and unfinished emotional states. Built from moments of movement rather than resolution, the record drifts between clarity and collapse, holding space for ideas still forming. These Aotearoa shows mark the first opportunity to hear the album reworked for stage, alongside earlier material, presented in an intimate live setting.

D.I.R.T #19 | w/ TVNZ | We had disruption; how did we do?

DIRT (Disaster Innovation Research and Teaching) is your community resilience group and we meet regularly to get our neighbourhood better prepared for a significant earthquake, extreme weather, or other disaster scenario. In DIRT #19 we are taking a look at how we did when our community experienced extreme rainfall and flooding in April and what we can learn from that.

On the 17th we are doing a practice run through of various activities as on the 24th we’ll be filmed for part of a TVNZ documentary about New Zealanders ‘prepping’ in various ways. We hope that showing what we do inspires others to form or join a similar community group. Come and learn in a relaxed and fun way to help make yourself and our community better prepared to handle disruptive events.

WHERE: Vogelmorn Upstairs
TIME: Doors 7:00pm, Music 7:30pm
COST: Tickets at Eventfinda‍ ‍

Wellington based singer songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Beans Wright and Don Mackay have been performing together as a duo since early 2025, and were previously both members of the trio Don and The Divorcees over the previous couple of years.  Beans has headlined the Weklington and Hamilton folk festivals, while Don previously fronted the alt country band "Scattered Wreckage".

They will play a mixed repertoire of Beans songs and Dons in a set that ranges across folk, country and acoustic rock styles, including most of the songs from Don and The Divorcees 2025 album “Bit Players”.

The 13th Floor described “Bit Players” as “an album that trusts in the detail, honesty, and strength of three distinct songwriting voices working in harmony. Alongside the sadness and stillness, there is wit, warmth, and a sense of the comfort of friends.”

There will be happy songs, sad songs, silly songs, murder ballads, and songs reflecting on the state of the universe.
