Hobnail bring a mix of bluegrass, Celtic, folk, and rock’n’roll, with Jo Moir’s barnstorming fiddle, tight harmonies, and songs that will make your feet move and your heart sing.
In 2025, they released their 8th album, Three Part, and their 2026 tour continues to showcase this new material alongside fan favourites from their extensive catalogue.
Formed in 1994 with little ambition beyond playing a few shows and enjoying a few beers, Hobnail have travelled from Porirua to Pittsburgh, New Plymouth to Norfolk Island, Auckland to Amsterdam, Germany to Gore, and the Canadian Prairies to the Canterbury Plains. They’ve released eight studio albums and a Best Of collection, played over 1,000 shows, and clocked more than 250,000 km on the road. Three-time finalists at the NZ Music Awards, they continue to delight audiences wherever they play.
“Refreshingly down-to-earth and lovely with vocals so tightly knit they could be family.” – Mike Alexander, NZ Herald
“Their music has been described as a fusion of bluegrass, Celtic, folk and rock'n'roll. That description lists some of their influences, but doesn't do them justice… They invoke joy and sadness, spirit and laughter. A world-class act in our small corner of the world.”
